Winter Break!

As of 2.30 p.m. today, I am finished with my first term of graduate school. I dropped off my last paper. Woohoo!

Tomorrow morning, I hit the road for PA to spend Christmas with the folks. Not sure how long I'm staying there---basically until my mother stops speaking to me. I'm hoping that having Rowen around to act like a spaz will distract my mother from all my faults. Should work---for at least the first hour.

In all seriousness, though, I am very much looking forward to a consistently warm house with a comfy couch and cable television. And no horrible, terrible, no-good neighbors who have parties at 2 a.m. on a school night and then act like I'm the unreasonable one for asking them to keep the noise down. Although apparently they did get the message that 2 a.m. is a bad time to start a party; last night they waited until 2.30! I called the cops, but the horrible, terrible, no-good Madison police didn't bother to show up. Bah! (And, yes, I know that police departments in mid-sized cities are seriously stretched and can't always respond to every noise complaint, but still! I had to listen to Britney Spears karaoke at 3 in the morning. I think that's worth an assault charge at least.)

Despite being on break for the next five weeks, I'm not sure how often I'll be able to post, especially while in PA. As well-appointed as my parents' house is (Did I mention the couch? And the cable? And all the free food I can eat so long as I can ignore my mother's not-at-all-subtle comments about my weight?), they do not have high-speed Internet. And starting Tuesday night, I plan to sleep for about a week. But I will try to check in more often!

Well, my knitting partner should be here any minute. And I need to wrap this up and can't figure out a witty end. So that's that. My brain is officially shutting off. Right . . . now.

Bearette Told Me I Needed a New Post
